Stone floors and walls heighten your visual appeal
Natural stone flooring is prized for its one-of-a-kind look. Stone is quarried from the earth and cut into pieces that vary in size. While floor installation is labor-intensive, stacked stone panels and veneer stone simplify the task of adorning walls. G & J Tile & Floor Covering is a stone retailer in Foley, Alabama, that offers a variety of brands to satisfy your floor and wall needs. We are a locally owned business that has a great team of installers too.
Natural stone
Popular stone types include marble, slate, travertine, limestone, sandstone, and granite. When installing stone in kitchens or bathrooms, it’s important to note the coefficient of friction, or how slippery the stone is. The flooring should have a minimum of a 6 dryness coefficient. Often, this natural flooring material needs to be sealed. Sandstone is the most porous natural stone while slate and granite are almost waterproof. Not all stones are well suited for high traffic areas, so it's important to research the characteristics of each one before making a purchasing decision.
Stacked stone panels
Stacked stone panels are composed of natural stones that are mounted together to form modular interlocking panels. More specifically, the cut pieces of stone are attached to a backing so they can be installed like tile. No grout is required. These panels can be used for interior and exterior installations. Common interior applications are backsplashes, accent walls, and fireplace surrounds. While interior panels are often used to add texture to vertical surfaces, exterior panels ordinarily add visual appeal to retaining walls and architectural features. We carry MSI stacked stone among others.
Veneer stone
Veneer cast stone mimics the look of natural stone. The two primary components in this engineered product are Portland cement and iron oxides. Since the cement mix is baked in textured molds, stones come in uniform sizes. These man-made stones are lighter than natural stones, and they are easier to cut. Thin veneer stone is 1-inch or 2-inches thick while full veneer stone can be up to 8-inches thick. This engineered material is used to decorate wall surfaces only. It is not meant to be load-bearing.
